I am an Advertising & Marketing Professional, and since 2011, Certified American TESOL General and Business English Teacher, both training courses and certifications with the American TESOL Institute ATI. I speak English, Spanish, upper mid-level German, and some Mandarin Chinese. I have lived in Shanghai - China for over 20 years, mostly working as an expatriate Advertising Creative Director as well as Marketing Communications Manager at large Multinational Advertising Agencies and some local corporations. Not only have I worked in Shanghai, but also HCMC-Vietnam, Phnom Penh-Cambodia, Yangon-Myanmar, Singapore, and Vienna-Austria. I have given lectures on advertising at universities in Shanghai, and taught General and Business English at training centers in Shanghai and HCMC Vietnam. Currently I’m a virtual trainer of English and Spanish for business at the Dutch, Spain based, Learnlight Global Language Training Academy. My extensive career as expatriate in large multinational corporations based in different countries, has given me in-depth experience and knowledge of corporate intercultural communication. I bring all that experience to each of my lessons, offering my students a rich and cultured conversation, easily adapted to their needs and realities, resulting in a fulfilling learning experience. You will learn: - Vocabulary, relevant words that are useful for you and your needs using English. -Grammar applied to real talk and writing. Not an abstract list of rules, but instead a vivid and rich practice where the grammar rules come alive and can be easily understood and remembered by the student. -Fluency, confidence to express yourself clearly -Pronunciation There are several approaches to the teaching of English as a second language, that combined seem to do the trick. Based on my experience, the overall frame for the class should be a combination of Whole Language and Natural Approaches. Making of the session a meaning centered experience, while improving the interpretation of texts and expression of ideas in writing. The meaning making role of phonics, grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation, even pronunciation, should be highlighted systematically. The main part and climax of the class should be producing engaging Communicative Approach exercises, which provide students with a productive experience of the language in use for a meaningful purpose. This is the part where no matter how static some tasks seem to be, we must bring them to life. Through aloud readings, role plays, dialogues, Q&A’s, real life scenarios and Brainstorming, we conjure an experience that will leave a learning mark in the conscious and subconscious of the student, by using language meaningfully. Short, intermittent and intense breaks to Audio Lingual Approach, do both the job of punctuating the class and secure vocabulary, intonation, spelling, and basic meanings. Immediately after the short drill, the class should bounce back to experiential whole language and communicative exercises, with the drilled words now playing a vital role, in a context that matters to the learners.
